“Li Dong” is the 19th of the 24 solar terms. This year, it falls on November 7, marking the official start of winter. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, winter is a season when yin energy reaches its peak and all things begin to conserve their essence. For the human body, metabolic processes also slow down relatively during this season. The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Dalian Jinshitan Hospital reminds everyone: In winter health preservation, avoid cold and seek warmth, nourish yin while conserving yang, thereby maintaining a relative balance between yin and yang and ensuring good health.

24 Solar Terms Regimen | Beginning of Autumn
The heat has not dissipated, the moon is bright as water, and the autumn wind is beginning to blow into the sleeves and feel cool. The beginning of autumn is the 13th of the 24 solar terms. There are three seasons in the beginning of autumn, one is the cool wind. The second time, the white dew fell. Three days later, cold cicadas chirped. After the beginning of autumn, the temperature drop is not immediate. The weather gradually turns cool and the temperature difference in the morning and evening gradually increases. When the seasons change, we should make adjustments in food, drink and daily life.

Dear Physicians, August brings forth the fragrance of ripe fruits and brimming vitality. We are celebrating the fourth “Chinese Doctors’ Day.” On this special occasion, on behalf of the hospital’s Board of Directors, I would like to extend our warmest greetings and profound respect to all physicians in our hospital! With approval from the State Council, August 19 has been designated as “Chinese Doctors’ Day” since 2018. This year’s theme for Doctors’ Day is “Together Building Dreams on the Centennial Anniversary—Physicians Fulfilling Their Original Aspirations with Responsibility.” Coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, we celebrate our own festival—a testament to the Party and the state’s deep care, concern, and support for medical personnel. It highlights the professional honor and charm of those in white coats and embodies the profound value of physicians’ lives. The people come first; life comes first. We have chosen a sacred vocation, shouldering a noble mission and persevering through thick and thin. At the forefront of saving lives and alleviating suffering, we selflessly dedicate ourselves and work tirelessly, fully showcasing the admirable image of modern-day angels in white. Through concrete actions, we embody the lofty spirit of health care: "revering life, rescuing the dying and healing the wounded, willingly dedicating ourselves, and extending boundless love." Staying true to our original aspirations and keeping our mission firmly in mind, we will further strengthen medical ethics and conduct, continuously enhance our professional competence, convey the warmth of health guardians with genuine care, write the loyalty of white-clad warriors with every drop of sweat, shoulder hope with skillful hands, and earn the future with sincere dedication. In our ordinary yet busy posts, we strive to be physicians who are filled with compassion, imbued with warmth, and committed to taking responsibility. As one physician put it: Treating illness and saving lives has never been merely a technical endeavor—it is steeped in humanistic spirit. It’s the encouragement and trust conveyed during pre-operative consultations, the lingering concern for patients on the way home, and the smile that lights up weary faces after a successful surgery. “Medicine is the study of humanity; medicine needs warmth.” When we always place the interests of patients at the center, think about them wholeheartedly, bravely take responsibility, and dare to dedicate ourselves, we will surely gain even more trust, confidence, and warmth from our patients. And it is precisely this warmth that becomes the source of strength driving doctors to continually pursue progress and embrace greater responsibilities. As the COVID-19 pandemic enters a critical phase of routine prevention and control, it is still you—wearing your white coats and armor—who bravely step forward against the tide, unflinchingly throwing yourselves into the frontline tasks of preliminary screening and triage, epidemic prevention and control, nucleic acid testing, and vaccination. With passionate devotion, you express your deep love for the country and the people, and with practical actions, you demonstrate your sense of responsibility and commitment. During this crucial period of epidemic prevention and control and hospital development, I sincerely hope that our physicians will uphold the benevolent heart of healers, strengthen their sense of responsibility and action, and serve as guardians of public health, leaders in superb medical skills, practitioners of Healthy Dalian, devoted contributors of boundless love, and inheritors of medical excellence. May you continue to make new and greater contributions to the development and construction of our hospital. Finally, once again, I wish all physicians a joyful holiday, good health, smooth work, and everything going smoothly! Dean: Dai Jingjie August 19, 2021
